Don Jose, color linoblock, 6x6"
MAUREEN GEORGE
"My focus is to push color and design to the limits. At on point, I decided that I wanted to create a painting of a strong and passionate woman and immediately thought of the opera Carmen. That was such a satisfying experience that I have become obsessed with opera music and stories.”
George, one of the 2005 Access Print Portfolio artists, chose the same portfolio format, a 6x6” linoblock, for her new opera series. Exhibited for the first time, the paired prints perfectly reflect their operatic relationship of Carmen and Don Jose and the tenor of Bizet’s popular score. These lively prints are good examples of George’s flair for color, design (she is a Graphic Designer by day) and character portrayal.
